An interesting article on divorce and the lasting effects it has on a person’s psyche and personality recently caught our eye. The article isn’t saying that a divorce is guaranteed to make a person socially insecure and emotionally volatile. But what it does say is that once you get divorced, it is something you can never undo. You will always be someone who was divorced — even if you remarry the person you initially divorced.
That permanence that permeates your being from the moment you sign the divorce papers until your time on Earth ends, and it can change the way you interact with people and the way you even view yourself.
While these effects may be true for some, they may not be true for everyone. And really, we take umbrage at the notion the title of the article is presenting. “I’m Remarried, So Why Does My Divorce Still Feel Like A Failure?” implies that divorce has an element of failure to it no matter what. But in reality, there are many couples out there who go through the divorce process and are indeed happy they did it. They also don’t see it as a failure — they see it as a step towards achieving the happiness they deserve in a new chapter of their life.
Divorce may be an end, but it is also a beginning. While there will certainly be some difficult topics you have to address and there will be some emotional times ahead, you can get past the present and lead a fulfilling future.
