Peaceful end to child custody and visitation battle possible

Many Louisiana parents understand why people fight so fiercely for their children after the end of a relationship. The problem is that contentious child custody and visitation battles often do nothing to ensure that the children are happy and secure. In fact, many of these battles tend to make matters worse, and the courts often push parents to work together to reach an agreement on their own. Even celebrities like Uma Thurman are sent away by judges to negotiate an agreement before making the court decide the fate of her child.

Thurman and her ex-boyfriend had been in a bitter custody fight over their 4-year-old daughter. Each made accusations about the other, and it looked as though they would never agree on anything. Even the child's attorney disagreed with certain requests. Despite this, the court sent the two and their attorneys to make one last attempt at coming to an agreement without the court's intervention.

It took several hours, but it was announced that the parties worked out approximately 98 percent of their issues. Compromises were made, and the judge hopes that an amicable agreement will be before him soon. The fact that Thurman and her ex-boyfriend took the judge's order seriously indicates that they want to do what is best for their daughter despite their differences.

Most child custody and visitation battles are actually about the couple's relationship more than they are about the children. Many people are caught up in the momentum of a court battle and ultimately regret the results. Stopping that momentum and shifting the focus to creating a parenting plan that works for the children and the whole family is never out of reach. Once Louisiana parents put aside their feeling for each other and focus on doing what is best for their children, reaching an agreement is possible.
